SASH Gazette - March 2003    3/14/2003

EL MUERTE ES MUCHO MAGNIFICO!

Muerte bumps Aimis from the Top Spot in February!
Beautiful breezy weather at the range brought 25 shooters (along with our trusty horse and her pony) to our February match! Jeff "El Muerte" Wang was able to beat out Craig "Wild Aimis" Bevan by 2.7 seconds for this month's top spot. It's probably due to his lightning-fast reloading skills. Jeff had his new Yellowboy rifle to help him out with the 15 round rifle stage, and his brass-dumping Schofield on the pistol reloading stage... Wait a sec - did I say skills? My bad, I meant fast reloading irons.

If you notice the points listing in this month's Gazette as being a little different from what was read after the shoot - it's because some of y'all need to get some basic arithmetic schoolin'...3 misses at 5 seconds a piece does not equal to 30 seconds - even if the shooter is Phil "Branded Buck" Rapoza (but don't tell him I said that)!

"Branded Buck" had an additional 15 seconds added to his final time, but luckily (for him) it was caught by a new-fangled thing called the computer! John "One-Eyed Jack"....er...I mean, "Black Jack Derringer" Brassell wasn't so lucky, the 'puter caught a couple of seconds that were missing from his initial final time, and bumped him a few places lower.

We saddled up "Ol' Horsey" and had her help out the shooters on our 2nd stage - she was so steady, a whole gaggle of shooters had no misses on that stage: Jan "Mountain Black" Schwarzenberg, Max "Painless Doc" Cooper, Don "Montana" Sorum, Jake "The Boothill Bandit" Jacobs, Stuart "Pair A Dice Kid" Belshe, Chris "Miss Kitty" Kaufman, Robert "Bronco Six" Hensler, Craig "Wild Aimis" Bevan, Jeff "El Muerte" Wang and Mike "Wyatt" Wee. Good shootin' y'all!

Although the pony didn't look too intimidating, he did manage to evade the lassos from 90% of the posse! I guess the ol' sayings right...looks can be deceiving - especially when you think a big ol' lasso loop can easily go around a small lil' pony!

BE SAFE ON THE RANGE
Please be sure to wear eye and ear protection at all times when the range is in use. We urge you to get eye protection that wraps around the sides - so you can further avoid injuries due to richochets.

Also, please do not uncase your firearms until you're at the fumble table or on the line. We have had a few people pulling out their irons in the parking lot, and that m'friends is a "no-no." Do not handle any firearms until the range is called "hot."

SET-UPs, BREAK DOWNS, SHOW-UPs & SHOW DOWNS
Remember - shooters must be at the range by 8:30 AM, or you will be assessed a $5 late fee. Those who are unable to help set up due to physical limitations still need to be there for moral support.

Shooting targets is hella fun, but did you know putting them away is just as fun? (c'mon now - you're already sweaty and dirty - what's 15 more minutes?) Please help your fellow shooters take down and put away the equipment at the end of our match.

If ya think ya gots the creative mind to come up with excitin' new stages, buzz Phil "Branded Buck" at 361-5655 (pager), fax to 956-2251 or if yer real technologically inclined - email 'em : brandedbuck@msn.com.
